Anok Yai at Met Gala in New York 2026 Wearing Sculptural Black Balenciaga Hooded Gown
Anok Yai attended the 2026 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 4 wearing a sculptural black Balenciaga gown designed by Demna. The dramatic couture look embraced strong architectural proportions, oversized volume, and precision tailoring, creating one of the evening’s most striking interpretations of the “Costume Art” theme.
The black Balenciaga gown featured tightly ruched fabric across the torso that pulled inward to create a sculpted and structured silhouette. From the upper body, the design expanded dramatically into an oversized hood that framed her face with a bold halo-like effect. The structured taffeta fabric maintained its architectural shape beautifully, giving the entire upper section a cocoon-inspired presence around the shoulders and neckline.
Below the waist, the gown opened into a voluminous flared skirt with a sweeping train that balanced the dramatic scale of the hooded upper silhouette. The proportions between the fitted torso, oversized hood, and grounded full skirt created a carefully controlled couture composition that felt powerful and theatrical without losing elegance.
Anok Yai completed the look with long black leather opera gloves that extended past the elbows, adding sharp structure to the silhouette and reinforcing the dramatic monochrome styling. A diamond necklace by Messika introduced a bright contrast against the matte black fabric, bringing subtle sparkle and refinement to the bold Balenciaga ensemble for a memorable Met Gala red carpet appearance.
